Intel Core i7-2600k CPU
The bestselling CPU of 2011 thus far is Intel's all new i7-2600k featuring the new 32nm lithography/technology. The 2600k has 4 core processing power but includes Intel's Hyper-threading technology that allows it to function as 8 cores when necessary. Turbo Boost 2.0 automatically boost up to 3.8 Ghz. The "k" in the 2600k means that this processor is unlocked and fully available for adjustment by the user. Performance seekers have reported builds that can do stable overclocking of up to 4.5Ghz.
Hundreds of verified owners across multiple sites have given this CPU 5 stars.
Here's what one buyer said about the i7-2600k:
"This processor is so much faster than my prior build, a Core i7-920, it's amazing. This puppy is almost as fast as the fastest $1,000 Gulf Town processor, for 1/3rd the price! It's performing flawlessly for me so far. I'm still playing with the overclocking, but some of my friends have gotten this chip up to 5.2 Ghz and beyond using just air cooling on the same motherboard I have, the Asus Maximus IV Extreme. I'm still playing around in the high 4s."
Price: $314.99 (as of 06/07/2011)
Intel Core i5-2500K Processor 3.3GHz 6 MB Cache Socket LGA1155
Just below it in popularity is the Intel core i5-2500k which is similar to the 2600k in that it's unlocked, includes turbo boost technology, and 4 cores. The main differences with the 2500k include only 6MB of L3 cache and that it doesn't include hyper-threading for the 8 core functionality. If you're a gaming fan, then it's tempting to spend 35% less for a chip that will run all of your games at the highest settings and still includes Intel's latest microarchitecture.Price: $224.37 (as of 06/07/2011)
Intel Core i7-990X Extreme Edition Processor 3.46 GHz 12 MB Cache Socket LGA1366
The Fastest consumer (not workstation) CPU of 2011.
Intel Core i7-950 Processor 3.06GHz 8 MB Cache Socket LGA1366
The i7-950 was the bestselling CPU of 2010 and has now gone down in price. It's still a great option.
Release Date: 09/21/2010
Intel Core i3-2100 Processor 3.1GHz 3 MB Cache Socket LGA1155
This
is a great budget option if you still want performance and the latest
technology but don't necessarily feel like you need 4 or 6 core
performance.
